Update on 2022 EOA Elections

After the first four years of the EOA’s existence, the General Assembly will elect a new Executive Board in November 2022.

According to the Statutes, the Board holds the duty to make decisions on strategic orientation and content for the EOA. The Board consists of a President, a General Secretary, a Treasurer, two Vice Presidents and two additional Board members, a total of seven persons.

Five members of the current Board have declared their readiness to stand for re-election. Among them are President Manfred Laemmer, Vice President Mariia Bulatova, General Secretary Marion Guigon-Lacroix, Treasurer Ales Solar and Board Member Ivans Klementjevs.

Furthermore, the Board is in talks with Clea Papaellina and Thierry Zintz, who have also declared their availability to candidate.

Clea Papaellina is the Dean of the National Olympic Academy of Cyprus, Vice-Chair of the EOC Commission for Culture and Education and, among others, teaches at the University of Cyprus.

Thierry Zintz is beside his function as Vice President of the Belgian Olympic Academy, Director of the MEMOS programme, Professor at UCLouvain and Member of the IOC Olympic Education Commission.

EOA President Manfred Laemmer emphasised that the readiness of a large part of the Board underlines the success of recent developments. “I am also pleased that Clea Papaellina and Thierry Zintz are willing to stand for election. Both individuals would bring great expertise to the Board and also provide a geographical and gender balance.”

The Board calls for further candidatures. In order to facilitate the organisational preparations for the election, the EOA Administrative Staff kindly asks to submit the signed candidatures via e-mail until Wednesday 16 November. More information can be found in the EOA Voting Procedures.
