Germany: Olympic Day Digital: A week of digital activities in the spirit of Olympic values

Every year on June 23, people around the globe celebrate the Olympic values on Olympic Day, in honour of the foundation of the International Olympic Committee in 1894. What is usually a colourful event featuring over 4000 students all around the German Sport & Olympic Museum in Cologne, Germany, must strike out in a new direction due to the coronavirus pandemic. With large-scale events not being up for discussion, the new motto for June will be: “Olympic Day goes online”.

Following the international motto: MOVE, LEARN, DISCOVER, the German Olympic Academy (DOA) initiates a digital Olympic Day Week, during which each of the above mentioned aspects is honoured with a special event. A highlight is the Olympic Day Run, during which motivated sportspeople collect running kilometers together. They will be supported by Team Germany Athletes, who will furthermore share their Olympic Values experiences. Education will not miss out either, as on June 23 the teaching material of the German Olympic Academy discussing the Tokyo 2020 Games will be released. Further actions within the framework of this week are currently still being planned.

All events and activities can be followed via the social media channels of either the German Olympic Academy or the channels of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and Team Germany.
