On 24 September 2021, the Presidents of the European Olympic Academies (EOA) and the European Fair Play Movement (EFPM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
This agreement sets a framework for a close partnership in the spirit of sport, tolerance and fair play and provides for cooperation in joint activities as well as regular exchange.
The signing took place during the EFPM General Assembly in Vienna on 24-25 September 2021.
EOA President Manfred Laemmer commented: “Fair Play is one of the principles of the Olympic Movement and is firmly anchored in the Olympic Charter. Therefore, a formal connection between the two European Associations of National Olympic Academies and the Fair Play Movement is a remarkable opportunity to exchange ideas and to fulfil each other’s missions.”
EFPM President Christian Hinterberger stated: “The preservation of ethical values is essential for the future of the Olympic Movement as well as the international sport. The cooperation will strengthen both organisations and will enable joint activities to spread fair play in Europe.”
In the following General Assembly, a new EFPM leadership was elected with Philippe Housiaux (BEL) as the new President.

The Association of European Olympic Academies (EOA) is the non-governmental umbrella organisation of National Olympic Academies in Europe. The aim of the EOA is to gather the Olympic Academies of the European continent in order to promote the Olympic Idea and the Olympic values. The European Fair Play Movement (EFPM) is a non-governmental Association joined by the National Fair Play Organisations of European countries. Its primary aim is the promotion of the ethical values of sports in the broadest sense, in sports activities and daily life at the European level.
