The International Fair Play Passport: A milestone for Olympic values

On June 3rd 2023, a remarkable project was unveiled at the 16th International Session of NOAs and NOCs Delegates in Olympia. The “International Fair Play Passport”, the result of collaboration between the National Olympic Academiy of Italy (AONI) and Greece (HOA), is set to positively influence the world of sport and beyond.

Under the auspices of the International Fair Play Committee (CIFP), the European Fair Play Movement (EFPM) and in collaboration with the National Olympic Committee of Italy (CONI) and the Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC), this innovative project was launched in a ceremony by, among others, HOA President George Alikakos, AONI President Mauro Checcoli, EFPM Secretary General Ioannis Psilopoulos.

The International Fair Play Passport was created by sociologist Prof. Gennaro Testa. The project has national as well as international partners such as respectively TotalEnergies and Allianz. Originally presented in Procida, the Italian Capital of Culture 2022, and launched in Brussels in 2023, this project crosses national borders to connect people around the world.

For the holders of the International Fair Play Passport, respect essentially comes first. It extends not only to sport, but also to everyday life, to sports clubs, schools and families. This passport has the potential to shape a global sporting culture and promote full inclusion in sport. Olympic values work strongly against deception, physical and verbal violence, exploitation, over-commercialisation and corruption.

Each country can select one male and one female athlete to contribute their message about Olympic values and fair play. The International Fair Play Passport can be in digital or printed form and contains details of the year, country and a serial number. An important aspect is that the International Fair Play Passport can be used as a prestigious award at events and programmes to promote the development of Olympic values in each country.

The International Fair Play Passport has the potential to change the way we experience sport and reminds us that fair play is paramount not only on the field but in every aspect of our lives. This groundbreaking project connects people around the world and champions the fundamental values that are at the core of the Olympic spirit: respect, fair play and integrity.
