Liechtenstein Olympic Committee joins the EOA

The EOA is pleased to announce that the Liechtenstein Olympic Committee (LOC) has been confirmed as the 36th member of the EOA. LOC and the EOA had the opportunity to connect during the Games of the Small States of Europe 2023 in Malta, where the EOA hosted a forum for discussing common challenges and strategies for the participating NOCs and NOAs.

LOC is particularly committed to spreading Olympic values and promoting physical activity among children and young people. To this end, it organises the Olympic Day every year in cooperation with schools in Liechtenstein, allowing nearly 900 pupils to explore various sports. Additionally, LOC addresses issues relating to the Olympic Movement and organises panel discussions on the topic of Olympic values and current developments.

Beat Wachter, CEO and Secretary General of LOC, who has a background in education and has worked as a teacher and in the Office for Education in Liechtenstein, emphasises the importance of disseminating Olympic values and educational activities. He stated, “As a representative of the interests of the Olympic movement, LOC works to spread the Olympic idea and the promotion of Olympic values in Liechtenstein. To fulfil this mission in the future, we are very much looking forward to the exchange with the network of European Olympic Academies.”

EOA President Manfred Laemmer said about LOC’s accession, “As a very committed new member, LOC will enrich our network with its approaches and activities and we look forward to a successful and harmonious collaboration with them.”
