In the last days of May, EOA Vice-President Prof. Mariia Bulatova visited Vilnius and congratulated the Lithuanian Olympic family on the 100th anniversary of the recognition of the Lithuanian NOC by the International Olympic Committee.
A magnificent gala event was held as part of the celebrations on 29 May, 2024. At this event, the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Mr Gitanas Nauseda, and IOC President Thomas Bach congratulated Lithuania’s Olympic enthusiasts on this glorious jubilee.
In addition, the final events of the Olympic Days took place in the period from 29-31 May 2024 as part of the cultural and educational programme of the Lithuanian National Olympic Committee. The Olympic plein air event for preschoolers, dedicated to International Children’s Day took place in the park of the Presidential Palace and looked especially touching.
During the course of the events, the First Lady of Lithuania, Mrs. Diana Nauseda, presented an educational program for refugee children from Ukraine, demonstrating the solidarity and friendly support of the two nations as well as their commitment to the ideals of peace and humanism. In addition to the cultural and sporting competitions, working meetings were chaired by the Lithuanian Olympic Academy. Aspects of further cooperation concerning the promotion of Olympic education were discussed. The dialogue certainly helped to strengthen the friendly relations between the National Olympic Academies and contributed to the educational goals of the Association of European Olympic Academies.
