Olympic Day Run in Zagreb Brings Together Olympians, Recreational Runners and First-Time Participants – EOA Family celebrates Olympic Day (VII)

Despite persistent rain, more than 400 participants gathered at Zagreb’s Jarun Lake for the 8th edition of the Olympic Day Run, organised by the Croatian Olympic Academy to celebrate Olympic Day. The event was opened by Saša Ceraj, Director of the Croatian Olympic Academy, who welcomed participants before the start of the race and thanked everyone who chose to celebrate Olympic values despite the challenging weather.

What makes the Croatian Olympic Day Run unique is the diversity of its participants. It is one of the few events where Olympic medallists and elite athletes share the same start line with experienced recreational runners, families, children and people who have never taken part in a running event before. There are no barriers to participation – everyone is welcome, regardless of age, sporting background or fitness level – making the event a genuine celebration of inclusion through sport.

This year’s edition was supported by several Croatian Olympians and top athletes, including Olympic gold medallist Josip Glasnović (shooting), Olympic boxing finalist Gabrijel Veočić, , Olympic wrestler Ivan Huklek, marathon Olympian Matea Parlov Koštro, as well as Croatia’s leading rowers Josipa and Ivana Jurković, who inspired participants by joining them in celebrating Olympic Day.

A special feature of the event is the children’s race, which combines physical activity with Olympic education. Every child receives the Olympic Primer, an educational publication of almost 300 pages produced by the Croatian Olympic Academy. Through stories, illustrations and interactive content, the book introduces young readers to the history of the Olympic Movement, Olympic values, fair play and healthy lifestyles, ensuring that Olympic Day is not only about running but also about learning.

Now in its eighth edition, the Olympic Day Run has become one of the Croatian Olympic Academy’s flagship public events. It continues to demonstrate that the Olympic Movement is at its strongest when it brings together elite athletes and ordinary citizens, encouraging everyone to experience the joy of movement and the values of excellence, friendship and respect.
